Corinne Stubbs - 2010 (USA)

What were you studying/where were you working?

I went to Cape Town, South Africa on a study abroad program offered by my school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin known as Marquette University.  Here, I was studying to obtain a B.A. in Broadcast & Electronic Communication with a minor in Music.  During my time in Africa, I spent a couple days of the week at Bush Radio and the remainder of the week taking courses at University of the Western Cape. At Bush, I assisted with some of the production and hosting aspects of the Breakfast Show.

What are you currently doing (Work, studies, etc)?

I am back in the states, finishing my last two semesters at Marquette in order to obtain my degree. I am looking into possible future job and school options.

Most memorable experience at Bush Radio

I have too many memorable experiences about South Africa to simply name just one. At Bush Radio, one of my best memories was being on air in the mornings.  I was incredibly lucky whilst working at Bush because I was able to learn so many new things from such wonderful, fun people. The environment was lively and uplifting, so I always looked forward to go to the station on the days I wasn’t at school.

Most memorable experience of South Africa

Overall, one of my most memorable experiences about South Africa was being able to watch a World Cup game at Green Point Stadium. I have never paid attention to sports, but watching Uruguay compete against the Netherlands was unforgettable.  People from so many different countries surrounded me, and the feeling of camaraderie and unity was unreal. Whilst living in Cape Town, I always felt that there was another adventure just around the corner. It became my home away from home, and the moments I spent there were some of the best of my life.
