Most memorable experience of Bush Radio

I most remember, and miss, the sense of community and purpose that was a part of everything that Bush does. I got to see this first hand in working with people to produce programs and field recordings but also experienced the station's community and culture through conversations over lunch (the best fish and chips I've ever had) and even meeting up away from the station on the weekends.

Most memorable experience of South Africa?

Attending the awarding of an honorary doctoral degree in literature by UCT to Chinua Achebe, an event which also included the third Steve Biko Memorial Lecture and marked the 25th anniversary of Biko's death. I was reading Biko's I Write What I Like at the time, and was amazed at the way that his words and life not only inspired me but were so well honoured by Achebe and others in attendance. This event was also the first and only time that I saw Nelson Mandela in person, and the view from the steps of Jameson Hall that night was one that I hope I never forget.
