Lise Durand - 2004 (France)

What were you studying? Where were you working?

I was studying at Rotterdam University, and I was basically taking a “gap year” in the Netherlands after I had already graduated in France. I decided to complete my curriculum by studying abroad and after one semester, I was proposed at an internship in South Africa.

Most memorable experience of Bush Radio

Everyday was a memorable experience! Visiting the nursery, watching Adrian through the studio pane, attending weekly meetings with Zane, working with South African teenagers…everything was just extremely fulfilling. Every moment was intense and great for me, especially when I went out with my colleagues. I really felt part of the team. I had a chance to learn many things on a professional level, including the skill one needs to adapt oneself in an environment which is culturally different.

Most memorable experience of South Africa

I was living in South Africa, and not exactly visiting the country. Of course, I have appreciated to travel but that was not the most important. One needs to understand a country and its inhabitants, when you live in it. After all, this was memorable.
